Dinosaurs have a special way of capturing the imagination of young children. This week at ChildSol Creche & Pre-School, our little explorers stepped back in time as they discovered the fascinating world of dinosaurs through sensory play, fossil digging, and exciting volcano experiments.
The Dinosaur Theme created a wonderful opportunity for children to learn through hands-on experiences while developing important early childhood skills. Throughout the week, our classrooms were filled with laughter, curiosity, teamwork, and adventurous exploration. The children fully embraced the experience as they became little palaeontologists, scientists, and dinosaur explorers.
This exciting theme also connected beautifully with several ChildSol values, including Adventure Awaits, Playful Learning, and Kreative Fun. Through every activity, children were encouraged to explore freely, ask questions, use their imagination, and build confidence through discovery.
One of the highlights of the week was our Dino Fossil Dig Adventure. The children searched through sensory trays filled with sand and textured materials to uncover hidden dinosaur bones and fossils. Armed with scoops, brushes, and eager little hands, they carefully excavated their discoveries just like real scientists. What may seem like simple play is actually an incredibly valuable learning experience for young children.
As the children dug through the sensory materials, they strengthened their fine motor skills by scooping, brushing, pinching, and carefully lifting objects. These small hand movements help develop the muscles needed for future writing and everyday tasks. The activity also encouraged patience, concentration, and problem-solving as the children worked out how to uncover the fossils without disturbing the surrounding sand.
The fossil dig also became a fantastic language-building activity. The children were introduced to exciting new words such as “prehistoric,” “fossil,” “extinct,” and “excavation.” Conversations naturally developed as the children compared their discoveries, discussed dinosaur names, and shared their excitement with one another. These moments of interaction help strengthen communication and social skills while building confidence in expressing ideas.
Another favourite activity during the week was volcano exploration. The excitement in the classroom was impossible to miss as the children learned about volcanoes and watched bubbling lava eruptions take place before their eyes. Volcano activities are always a wonderful way to introduce children to early science concepts because they combine visual excitement with hands-on learning.
The children were fascinated as they observed what happened when different ingredients were mixed together. They eagerly made predictions, asked questions, and watched carefully as the “lava” overflowed from the volcano. Activities like these encourage scientific thinking and help children begin understanding concepts such as cause and effect. Most importantly, they show children that science can be exciting, fun, and interactive.

Homemade Volcano Experiment 🌋
One of the most exciting activities families can enjoy together is creating a homemade volcano. Children absolutely love watching their volcano erupt, and the activity creates lasting memories while teaching important scientific concepts.
What You Will Need:
- A small plastic bottle or cup
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Dishwashing liquid
- Red or orange food colouring (optional)
- Sand, clay, foil, mud, or playdough
- A tray or outdoor space
How To Make The Volcano:
Place the bottle in the middle of the tray.
Build a volcano mountain around the bottle using sand, clay, foil, mud, or playdough.
Add 2–3 tablespoons of baking soda into the bottle.
Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid and food colouring.
Slowly pour vinegar into the bottle and watch the volcano erupt!
The fizzy bubbling lava effect creates excitement and wonder while introducing children to early science concepts.
